Get to Know Us
For more than two decades, Jim Collins has been providing technical services and project planning for various aquaculture projects in shrimp and fish production as well as facilities planning throughout the Americas, Asia and East and South East Asia.
Jim graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1996 with degrees in Biological Sciences- Marine Biology and Aquaculture. He then worked for Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in both Marine Science and Aquaculture divisions focusing on marine fin fish culture and inland low salinity “zero exchange” shrimp production projects. Further, he provided practical lab training for the Aquaculture Center for Training Education and Development (ACTED).
In 2000, he began working with Florida-based Shrimp Improvement Systems (SIS) on shrimp genetic improvement and providing technical assistance to clients throughout the Americas and later in the Asia-Pacific region.
In late 2003, Jim pursued a Master’s of Science degree in Marine Affairs and Policy at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), helping to build a commercial pilot scale marine fin fish hatchery and conducting environmental impact studies for open ocean, high-value marine fin fish cage culture projects in the Bahamas.
Jim was based in Thailand from 2005-2017, working throughout Southeast Asia on many projects, including expansion and development of selective breeding facilities, research programs, and protocol development for L. vannamei production for globally recognized leading companies including SIS, Aquabounty, SyAqua, the Gold Coin Group, INVE and Thai Union.
From 2011-2016, Jim was project manager for broodstock production systems at SyAqua Siam, developing extensive broodstock production facilities and initiating the broodstock sales development. He also engaged in nutritional research and development with the Gold Coin Group and Gold Coin Biotechnologies associated with the functional feeds innovation-working group.
In 2018, Jim founded Infini-SEA LLC with his passion to develop a breakthrough breeding program in the U.S. that provides advanced and sustainable genetics to meet the challenges posed by evolving markets and ever-changing environments.
